How to Prep for Your Photo Session (Without the Stress!)

A week before ➝ the day of ➝ during the session

Hey friend!

I know getting ready for a photo session can feel like a lot. Outfits, snacks, naps, moods, weather—whew! But I promise, with a little prep (and a lot of grace), we’ll turn the chaos into magic. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, this guide will walk you through how to prepare step-by-step—from a week out to the moment we’re capturing all those joyful, snuggly, playful moments together.

Let’s make it fun. Let’s make it stress-free. Let’s make it you.

✨ One Week Before: Set the Stage

Pick your outfits

Go ahead and lay them out, try them on, and make sure everything fits and feels comfy. Stick to soft, neutral tones that coordinate, not match, and flow with the season. I’ve got a whole wardrobe guide if you need help or want to text me pics!

Prep the kids

Start talking about the session in a fun, light way. “We’re going to hang out with Miss Tiffany and take some silly pictures!” Keep it playful so they know it’s something to look forward to—not something stiff or formal.

Think about where we’ll shoot

If it’s an in-home session, no need to deep clean—but go ahead and tidy up the spaces we’ll likely use (like the living room, primary bedroom, nursery). I’ll help you find the best light and angles and promise not to include any clutter in the shots!

✨ The Day Before: Little Touch-Ups

Check the outfits one more time—snip loose threads, iron if needed, and pack everything up so it’s ready to go. Include backup clothes for the kids (just in case) and any accessories or layers we might want to try.

Charge your phone, get gas in the car, and plan snacks or meals around our shoot time.

Self-care moment! Take a breath, soak in a quiet moment if you can, and go to bed early. You’re doing great already.

✨ The Day Of: Go with the Flow

Give yourself plenty of time to get ready and arrive a little early (or be ready when I arrive if I’m coming to you). Rushing = stress, and we don’t want that!

Feed the kiddos beforehand (and yourself too!) and have water/snacks on hand. Avoid sugar right before the session—it can backfire energy-wise.

Avoid screens at least 30 minutes before the session. Let’s keep everyone in the present and engaged!

Bring a few “tools” like a favorite toy, book, or blanket—something familiar and comforting.

✨ During the Session: Let the Magic Happen

Trust me to guide you. I’ll direct you when needed and give space when the moment calls for it.

Don’t stress if the kids get silly or wild. I’ve got tricks. I’ve got snacks. I’ve seen it all—and those in-between moments are often the most beautiful.

Be yourselves. Snuggle, laugh, play, be goofy—whatever feels natural. I’m here to capture your real connection, not perfection.

Final Thought

We’re not just taking pictures—we’re capturing memories you’ll hold onto for a lifetime. So give yourself permission to relax and enjoy the ride. I’ve got you every step of the way. And if you ever need help, have questions, or want a pep talk before the big day—just shoot me a text.

Let’s make some magic together ✨
